3-D Buildings

We recreated 3-D models of Cavan town’s landmark buildings using recycled materials. This meant raiding our recycle bins at home and eating a lot of cereal! It is true what they say “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”
In groups we worked on different buildings, (The Abbey, Breffni Park, The Courthouse, The Town Hall, The Library, The Tennis Club and The Cathedral). Construction of the structures was fun. After a few initial debates on how to create the buildings, we worked as a team to finish the project.
Our posters, maps and buildings were displayed in the library.
We were awarded certificates for taking part in the project.

Posters

Posters
We drew and coloured posters to raise awareness of the Tidy Towns initiative. Many of us
included a picture of the world, reminding everyone that it is our planet and we need to look after it. Others concentrated on more local issues such as preventing litter and protecting our rivers and lakes. We need to combat litter and to create a clean outdoor environment.

We hope to promote greater public awareness and education about litter, so it was important that our posters had catchy slogans. Some of us took longer than others to think of these!

Maps

Maps
Part of the Tidy Towns' Project involved Urban Heritage. Urban Heritage includes natural or built places of interest in our town. Heritage belongs to everyone. We drew maps of the town onto canvas. We marked heritage sites on these maps. These included the Green Lake and our school. Cavan town is rich in history and many buildings have survived for generations.

Conn Smith Park

Tidy Towns

We took part in this year’s Schools' Art Project in association with Cavan Tidy Towns. The aim of the project was to enable us to realise the importance of respecting our local environment whilst also raising our awareness of Tidy Towns and the importance of recycling and environmental management.

We wanted to explore the flora and fauna in the centre of Cavan town. Kitted out in our wellies we headed to Conn Smith Park where we met the ever so knowledgeable Heather. This hands-on workshop led us over the wetlands and drylands of the park. We used many of our senses-listening to the birds, sighting the frogspawn and smelling the  iron bacteria in the soil. We drew pictures of many of the trees, grasses, cones and tussock sedge in the park.

"A-ladd-in Trouble"

A-Lad-in Trouble

St Felim’s National school hosted their musical ‘A-ladd-in Trouble’ in the Town Hall Cavan . We were invited for a preview. It was a lively, funny and entertaining show.

World Book Day

World Book Day

In the morning Story Nana read us some Irish legends. We then went to the library to listen to another story teller. On our way back to school we called into Crannóg Bookshop and collected our free books with our book tokens. We had a competition in class for art and written book reviews. Kotryna and Julia were the winners.

Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack and the Beanstalk

A theater company visited our school. They performed "Jack and the Beanstalk". It was excellent.

Electricity

Electricity

We made electrical quizzes in groups. When the correct answers were matched the bulb lit. We swapped each group quiz-(bia, mountains, county towns, plurals, fractions) and tested them.

We made electrical circuits. When the circuit was complete, the bulb lit. When we added an extra bulb to the circuit the bulbs were dimer. When we added an extra battery to the circuit, the bulbs were brighter.  We added switches to our circuits. The circuit was complete when the switch was closed.
